Hey friends, I want to update you on three things regarding Church Planting.
First, we are so grateful to those who prayed for us as we went to San Antonio at the end of October. The weekend was busy, as I was in Austin on Friday and Saturday to sit in on South Texas Presbytery (PCA) meetings. Then, I headed back to San Antonio to be with family before preaching and having an informational meeting at Christ Church San Antonio on Sunday. All said the weekend was a big success. It was the second time I’ve gone to Presbytery, and it has been good to meet other pastors, become familiar with the culture, and learn how things work since I have never been part of a denomination before. Time at Christ Church was also very encouraging. I preached on The Lord’s Supper (listen here), and I would estimate that nearly one hundred folks stuck around to hear more about our vision to plant a church in the city.
Second, I am fifty days away from no longer being employed by Sojourn Montrose, which doesn’t feel real yet. While I don’t think I’ve processed that reality, I know it feels sad. Of course, I am excited about what is next, but Sojourn Montrose has been such a special place to work, serve, and belong. I will write more about this in the future, but I would appreciate prayers for me, the church, my family, and Reid Squires (the lead pastor at Sojourn Montrose). This will be a big transition for all of us, and we could all use prayers, encouragement, and support.
Finally, I expect to receive a formal job offer from Christ Church San Antonio in the next few days to serve as a Church Planter. This will clarify expectations, provide an initial timeline for the planting process, and clarify my fundraising responsibilities (more on that to come). Receiving that offer will be a big step, as that relationship has been cultivated over the last year and a half, beginning with me asking Luke Evans (CCSA’s lead pastor) to have coffee with me to pick his brain about church planting in San Antonio. Over time, we developed a friendship and a desire to work together to plant another church in the city. So, I’m thankful for that connection, which leads to an inroad of support in what would otherwise be lonely, uphill work. Anna and I have prayed for gospel partnerships in San Antonio for two years, and the Lord is providing meaningfully!
That’s all for today, folks! Thanks for reading, supporting, and praying!
In the Peace of Christ,
Cole
